What is TractGard®?

TractGard® is an Equine GI tract buffer, re-hydrator, digestaid and electrolyte source that is excellent for horses prone to stomach upset or discomfort. It is a pelleted mix of mineral salts, electrolytes, yeast and linseed meal designed to pull water into and lubricate the GI tract, buffer excess acids, and support normal digestion and healthy bowel function.

Get peace of mind with TractGard® knowing that your horse will drink well and have a settled stomach. Fresh water should be available at all times to horses on TractGard®.

TractGard® contains:

• Linseed Meal as a manure softener, GI tract lubricant and protein source. TractGard® is great for horses with frequent GI tract upset. The protein from the linseed meal helps maintain healthy weight, and supports healthy hoof and hair growth.

• Diamond V® Yeast to enhance fiber and protein digestion. Combined with the protein from the linseed meal, helps maintain healthy weight, and support healthy hoof and hair growth.

• Calcium Carbonate (also found in Tums® for people) is a buffer used to counteract excess stomach acidity and stomach upset. Feeding TractGard® with meals may reduce discomfort associated with stomach acidity from excess grain intake.

• Electrolyte Salts to encourage increased water intake through drinking. TractGard® helps pull water into and re-hydrate the GI tract. Can be fed when horses tend to drink less on cold nights, on long road trips, and at competitions.

 

Indications are:

• Any time your horse may be under any type of stress
• Before shipping or showing. At strange show grounds and other places where your horse may not drink.
• Chilly nights in the fall or spring when horses do not drink well.

Feeding Directions:

TractGard® is designed to be fed on a daily basis, or can be given as-needed basis as well.
Feed 1-2 ounces per grain meal - may vary according to size of animal and amount of grain fed. Start out with about 1/2 tablespoonful (1/2 oz.) per day, then increase 1/2 - 1 oz. per meal. You can give up to six tablespoonfuls, but experiment at the recommended increments with your horse to find what dosage suits him best.

You should monitor your horse's stools and water consumption carefully when feeding TractGard®. If you notice diarrhea or loose stools, decrease the dosage of TractGard®.
Make sure fresh water is available at all times to horses on TractGard®.
